Maya woke up extra early on Saturday morning. Today was special — her dad was taking her on a "Sound Safari" through the big city!
"What's a Sound Safari?" Maya asked at breakfast.
"We're going to listen carefully and discover all the amazing sounds our city makes!" Dad explained.
Maya was so excited she started clapping! [👏 HAND CLAP] [👏 HAND CLAP] [👏 HAND CLAP]
They grabbed their backpacks and stepped outside. Right away, Maya heard the city waking up.

"Our first safari sound!" said Dad, making notes on his clipboard.

A powerful drill whirred as workers built a tall tower. [⚙️ DRILL]
"Construction sounds!" Maya wrote in her safari notebook.
They walked past an office building. Through the window, computers started up. [💻 COMPUTER STARTUP]
A machine buzzed away in the copy room. [🖨️ PRINTER]
"Office sounds!" noted Dad.

"Music sounds!" Maya cheered, doing a little dance.

High above, something soared across the bright sky. [✈️ AIRPLANE]
And in the distance, something else chopped through the air. [🚁 HELICOPTER]
"Sounds from land, rails, AND sky!" Maya was amazed.
They stopped at a café for lunch. The waiter cleared the tables around them. [🍽️ DISHES CLINKING] [🍽️ DISHES CLINKING]
When their order was ready, a little bell rang. [🔔 SERVICE BELL]
"Restaurant sounds!" she added to her list.
After lunch, the weather changed. Rain started to fall on the city streets. [🌧️ RAIN] [🌧️ RAIN]
Thunder rumbled across the sky! [⛈️ THUNDER]
The wind picked up and blew leaves all down the street. [💨 WIND]
"Even the weather makes city sounds!" said Maya.
They ducked into a technology museum. Kids were playing games everywhere. [🎮 VIDEO GAME BEEP]
Old television sets clicked as the channels changed. [📺 TV CHANNEL]
A vintage radio crackled with static. [📻 RADIO STATIC]

Back at their apartment, Maya was exhausted but so happy. "We found over 30 different city sounds on our safari!" she announced proudly.
What an adventure — she could barely keep her eyes open. [🥱 YAWN]
"The city is like a giant orchestra," Dad said, tucking her in. "Every sound has a purpose and a story."
